Ancient tradition.
Modern craftsmanship.
The patience behind every bottle.
When people discover that every Botánica by Solarè tincture is cold-extracted for three months, one of the first questions they ask is:
“Why does it take so long?”
The simple answer?
Because nature doesn’t rush and neither do we.
In a world of shortcuts and mass production, we believe some things are worth waiting for. Every bottle we make begins with carefully selected herbs and months of patient extraction, allowing time to do what heat and haste cannot.
What Is a Tincture?
A tincture is one of the oldest methods of preserving and preparing medicinal plants.
For centuries, herbalists across many cultures have used a mixture of alcohol and water to gently extract the naturally occurring constituents found within roots, leaves, flowers, berries, bark, and mushrooms.
Rather than grinding herbs into powders or exposing them to high heat, tinctures capture many of the compounds that make each plant unique while providing a convenient, shelf-stable form that’s easy to use.
Why We Use Cold Extraction
Heat can be useful in some preparations, but it can also alter or degrade certain naturally occurring plant compounds.
Cold extraction allows herbs to steep gradually over time, helping dissolve a broad range of water-soluble and alcohol-soluble constituents while preserving the integrity of the plants.
That’s why every Botánica formula is allowed to extract slowly for approximately three months.
Time becomes one of our ingredients.
Why Three Months?
Many herbal companies complete extraction in just a few days or weeks.
We intentionally choose patience.
During those months, the alcohol and water slowly penetrate the plant material, allowing the extraction process to unfold gradually.
While extraction times vary depending on the herb and the desired preparation, extended maceration has long been a traditional approach in Western herbalism and remains valued by many modern herbalists today.
For us, three months reflects our commitment to craftsmanship rather than speed.
A Traditional Chinese Medicine Perspective
Traditional Chinese Medicine has always emphasized working with nature rather than against it.
Plants grow in rhythm with the seasons. They absorb sunlight, minerals, water, and time. Their qualities cannot be hurried.
Chinese medicine teaches that true balance develops gradually. Just as the body rarely falls out of balance overnight, restoring harmony is often a process rather than a single event.
That philosophy shapes the way we create our formulas.
We don’t believe healing begins with rushing.
We believe it begins with respecting the intelligence of nature.
The Science Behind Herbal Extraction
Plants naturally contain hundreds of compounds, including polyphenols, flavonoids, terpenes, alkaloids, glycosides, and polysaccharides.
Different compounds dissolve differently.
Some are more soluble in water.
Others dissolve more readily in alcohol.
By using an alcohol-and-water extraction over an extended period, herbalists can extract a wide spectrum of naturally occurring constituents from many plants. The ideal extraction method varies depending on the herb, which is why different herbal traditions use different approaches for different botanicals.
Our goal isn’t simply to make an extract.
Our goal is to honor the complexity of the whole plant.
Small Batch. Made by Hand.
Every bottle is handcrafted in small batches—not because it’s easier, but because it allows us to remain closely connected to every step of the process.
From selecting herbs to bottling each formula, quality matters.
That’s also why every batch undergoes third-party testing for identity, microbial safety, heavy metals, and other quality measures before reaching our customers.
Transparency matters.
Quality matters.
And so does trust.
Why It Matters
Choosing a tincture isn’t just about choosing herbs.
It’s about choosing the care, philosophy, and craftsmanship behind them.
At Botánica by Solarè, every bottle reflects our belief that thoughtful herbal medicine begins long before the first dropper is filled.
It begins with respect—for the plants, for tradition, for science, and for the people who trust us enough to invite our formulas into their lives.
Because some things simply can’t be rushed.
